Kim Garrett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. She has worked for over 35 years both as a clinician and as an administrator in an array of settings, including acute and residential inpatient treatment, juvenile detention centers, community mental health settings, addiction facilities, schools, non-profit agencies, and the Dept of State Health Services. Since 2020, she has been in private practice and works at Fort Wellness Counseling in Fort Worth, TX.
Kim's passion for working with people who have endured trauma led her to become trained in EMDR, and she is verified and a consultant through the EMDR Global Network. She has earned several credentials, including being a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional – Level II and is Certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). She has served as a mental health specialist in CISM groups for over 15 years. The resonance of Polyvagal Theory led to her working toward their masterclass Polyvagal Certificate Course through Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Institute (www.polyvagal.org) which she completes in March 2026.
Most importantly, Kim is a child of God and a believer in her salvation as a Jesus-follower. She was blessed to grow up in the church and has been active in church her entire life. In recent years, she has served with children, youth, adult and mission ministries. She considers her greatest life blessing to be her parents taking her to church as a small child where she learned about Jesus.
This training is influenced by her faith, clinical experience, and professional learning.
In this EMDR advanced training and consultation, Kim Garrett, LCSW-S, LCDC, addresses how Christian EMDR Therapists can apply Polyvagal Theory within the EMDR protocol. This course addresses insights for EMDR clinical practice as well as integration within the context of faith-based services. Specific application of polyvagal principles and Christian principles within Phases 2 and 4 is discussed.
